The new menu has arrived. We now have Bento Boxes, Nasu Dengaku (eggplant in a miso sauce), Okonomiyaki and Edamame (salty soy beans)...check out the menu page for the complete list of delicious choices.
We are also in the process of applying for a liquor licence for Rowville. It would be great to be able to serve up some Sake or Saporo with your meal...will let you know how that goes.
I hope you're all keeping warm this winter and enjoying the Olympics coverage. It has been a while since my last post....please like our page on Facebook for the most up to date news from Sushi Express.
Apologies....it's been a long time since my last post. I have been keeping the facebook site updated, so please check it out if you're on Facebook for more regular updates.
We are working on some tweaks and additions to our menu including Bento boxes. Oishi! We also have Okonomiyaki available in both shops now - savoury Japanese pancake. It has been very popular so it will definitely be staying on the new menu. Let us know what else you'd like to see on the menu, we can't promise everything will make the cut, but we really appreciate all the suggestions.
We're having a stall at the St Simon's Market Night, this Sunday 29th April in Rowville. It will probably be our last mobile sushi/gyoza until the Stringybark festival in Spring. It has a busy Summer as we had stalls at Belgrave South Primary School Staxafun fete, SelbyFest and St Lukes's Primary,
The wintery weather has really set in this week and our curries have been a popular way to keep warm. Don't worry, they are definitely staying on the menu. Keep warm everyone and remember we're closed today for ANZAC Day.
In case you missed our facebook alert, please be aware we are closed today, Monday 31st October. The good news is that we will be open tomorrow, Tuesday 1st November so you can order a sushi platters for your Cup Day celebrations. Our CM has a visitor from New Zealand staying over at the moment and she thought she didn't like sushi....but then she tasted our sushi and she loves it! It's great to get another convert :-) As we know not all sushi is created equal.
It's spring festival time of year and we will be having a stall this Friday 4th November at Lysterfield Primary School. This is the first time they have put on a fete so I'm sure they'd appreciate everyone coming along to support the school. 3,30pm to 7.30pm, Bellfield Drive, Lysterfield.
We are also running a sushi stall at the Wantirna South Primary School Fete - Saturday 12th November, 3pm to 8pm (Tyner Road) and at the Fun Run with Thomas - http://kidsfunrunwiththomas.org.au/
May your horse come in first tomorrow!
We had a great fundraiser with The Patch Primary School today and managed to raise a big donation for the Japanese Earthquake Appeal. The staff and kids all enjoyed a special sushi lunch order day and it was so popular they will make it a regular event.
Our own CM (cheeky monkey) is turning 12 next week and given our Belgrave shop is closed on Sundays she is having her party there. Got me thinking that it might be something other parents would like to do for their kids (?). Let me know if it's something we could consider - with or without catering.
Speaking of which....we are also in the process of refreshing our catering menu with hot food platters as well as some additions to our Maki, Combo and Sashimi platters....I'll let you know when it's up on the site.
I hope you all enjoyed the sunshine this week as we are now into the 2nd official day of winter!
Brrr...I hope you're all managing to keep warm now that the winter weather has arrived. We are excited to be expanding our menu at Belgrave. We will be offering Japanese curries and teriyaki don from next Monday - 16th May. That's right...Monday...our Belgrave store will now be open again 6 days a week from Monday to Saturday.
Thanks so everyone who has asked (either in person or thru our suggestions box) for more descriptions and photos on our menu. This change is well underway and we are hoping to release new look menus next week.
We are still looking for staff for our Rowville store - front of house able to work day shifts during the week and weekends...please pass it on to anyone you know who might be interested. Thank you!
How good has the weather been this week? We had a lovely couple of beach days over Easter with the kids and one day even took the dog along. FC has been getting some golf in and would be happy for me to post that his handicap is down to 4. (I don't know much about golf, but even I know that's pretty good!)
I hope all the runners enjoyed the Great Train Race today. It's such a great event and was a perfect day for it. The Belgrave shop will be open this Sunday especially for Mothers' Day. Let me suggest (speaking as a Mum with years of burnt toast in bed experiences) you treat your Mum to lunch around the train or a take home sushi platter for dinner!
A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to fill in one of our feedback forms. We are reading them often and sharing your feedback with the whole Sushi Express team. It's the most rewarding part of our business....knowing the food and service makes so many people happy!
I have just updated our site with Easter opening hours - make sure you check before you head out for your sushi fix...Rowville will be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday and Belgrave is closed Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Monday. We're getting quite a lot of our Belgrave customers coming down to Rowville which is great - it's always nice to see familiar faces! I met a new local Rowville couple last night who had met my brother in law (BIL) in South Africa on their recent holiday, in one of those amazing "it's a small world" co-incidences. They were holidaying in a remote seaside campground in South Africa and one of the blokes camped near them (my BIL) joked that he should send the tuna he had caught to his family in Melbourne...they asked where in Melbourne and realised they were both talking about Rowville. Such a small world!
We had a busy lunchtime in Rowville yesterday and we're still tweaking the way we manage our ordering system so that you can take plates from the train randomly and also have your order come out on the train. Thanks to all our customers who have provided so much great feedback. I've been overwhelmed by people who have taken the time to write down so much positive feedback and put it in the boxes in each of our stores. We had a group of ladies in yesterday - many who had never tried Japanese before. One in particular wanted me to let the chef's know that it was the first time she had tried Japanese and it was absolutely delicious!
We're running an ad in the local Mail newspaper soon which will have a 10% discount voucher...keep an eye out for that. If you haven't already, follow us on Facebook...we'll be running some special offers for Facebook fans soon.
I hope you all have a safe and Happy Easter.
Last weekend we helped support the Upwey South Primary School fete with a sushi stall and sold out in an hour and a half! This weekend we have the Belgrave South Primary School STAXAFUN fete so we'll make sure we have twice as many rolls ready. The Wellington Village Community Fair is also on this Saturday...so if you haven't already, choof on in and check out our new store in Rowville and check out the Fair at the same time.
Yesterday we helped Belgrave South Primary raise money for the Japanese Earthquake appeal with a contribution from lunch order sales. It coincided with their Japanese Day - it was so cute to see the kids running around at lunchtime in kimonos and karate outfits...there was even someone in pikachu costume! It was great to see the teachers and staff all dressed up aswell. We're running the same fundraiser for Monbulk Primary tomorrow and then next week we have what will probably be our biggest order yet when Mater Christi have a sushi lunch order day (there's over 1000 girls at Mater!)
I have been busy folding origami cranes to make some art to hang on the walls at Rowville. Did you know it is said that folding 1000 cranes brings you good luck? I have a little way to go but I am getting quite fast now :-)
